ASP.NET controls guideline

August 4, 2011

Today, after seeing a project from a customer, started by another developer, I was surprised to see that all the controls start with “_ui{Name}Lbl”, where {Name} is the custom name assigned by the control.

I felt strange immediately because the naming convention which most of the developers use is Hungarian (for controls I mean!):

Why this?

Because when using IntelliSense during coding, it’s easier to find a control (txtName for instance) by typing control abbreviation (eg: “txt”) than by typing “_ui” (or anything else) and beeing forced to see ALL the controls and try to find out which one ends with “txt”!!!

Well, in conclusion, this post is like a reminder: make your life easier by using coding standards:)
