JSF Life Cycle

December 15, 2010

A few months ago a friend of mine had an interview where he was asked how many cycles a JSF page has?

Well…easy?:) Maybe to retain the number but harder to enumerate:).

The six phases of the JSF application lifecycle are as follows (note the event processing at each phase):

  1. Restore view
  2. Apply request values; process events
  3. Process validations; process events
  4. Update model values; process events
  5. Invoke application; process events
  6. Render response

I’ve found a very good image for explaining all of the cycles so it can help you to memorize them:

Good luck!
